Imagineers is a creative project taking place in the Camborne Pool and Redruth area during the summer of 2008. Imagineers is a partnership between Mineral Tramways, National Trust (Cornish Mines and Engines), Kerrier District Council, Kernow Education Arts Partnership, Hi8us Cornwall, The Works and King Edward Mine.

The project seeks to involve young people in reflecting on Cornwall’s mining heritage in order to think about Cornwall’s economic and cultural future. Using the phrase “Necessity is the Mother of Invention” as a starting place, young people are developing a range of ideas for installation and performance, all of which will be displayed and seen in the final week on a stretch of the Great Flat Lode trail and at Cornish Mines and Engines.

The project is working with 15 local schools, colleges, youth and community groups to create a week of celebratory events from 30th June -4th July. Groups of young people are working with artists, performers, ex-miners and engineers to generate their ideas.

The Imagineers week includes:

Smoking Chimneys
Monday 30th June 8-8.30pm
A moment in time when a number of Engine House stacks in the area will be seen to emit smoke once more. We are recruiting a small army of adult volunteers to work with a core professional team to create this image in the landscape, to be seen from vantage points on Carn Brea and from King Edward Mine, with a musical accompaniment.
